Built during the Qing Dynasty and later named after a nearby Tin Hau Temple, Temple Street is sometimes referred to as “The Men’s Street” due to the area becoming famous for men’s fashion.

Temple Street market runs from 4 pm until midnight, but it doesn’t really come alive until after dusk, when hundreds of brightly lit stalls appear and thousands of visitors come to browse and shop. The market extends 600 meters back from both sides of the road. An astonishing variety of inexpensive goods can be found, including electronic products, clothes, pens, watches, jade articles, coins, toys, music boxes, CDs, ties, jeans, T-shirts, Western-style clothes and leather wares, luggage, antiques, etc. Cheap second hand goods are also sold. The northern end of the street is rich in the collections of well known Japanese cartoon creations, including Pokémon and Hello Kitty. Men’s and women’s accessories such as beaded handbags and shoulder bags are also worth looking out for. Polite bargaining is the norm as it is in Mainland China. The quoted prices are just a starting point for negotiation.
